I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita. Vishnu was tying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty, and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, "Now I am become Death – the Destroyer of Worlds."

Midnight in the street
The neon lights of clubs and bars
Choke out Luna and all her stars
Imprisoned in our dreams
Are you impressed with what you see,
When every human's blasphemy?
What if the world were to tumble down

I have been asked whether in the years to come it would be possible to kill forty million American people in the twenty largest American towns by the use of atomic bombs in a single night. I'm afraid that the answer to that question is yes. I have been asked whether there are specific counter-measures against the atomic bomb. I know that the bombs that we make in Los Alamos cannot be exploded by such counter-measures. I do not think there is any foundation for the hope that such counter-measures will be found.
